There are a couple of layers of protection between the steel rails in a 5th wheel installation kit such as # C16428-204 and the aluminum bed in the 2017 Ford F-250 4x4 short bed. First, the rails are powder coated so this powder coat is the first layer of protection between the steel rails and aluminum bed.

The Stromberg Carlson 100 Series 5th Wheel Tailgate # VG-97-100 doesn't have provisions for a lock on your 2001 Ford F-250 Super Duty but you can use the Stromberg Carlson 4000 Series 5th Wheel Louvered Tailgate # VG-97-4000 instead which does have the lock.

I spoke with my contact at Curt about wiring harness # C56070. He said that there are 12 to 14 gauge wires used. The 12 volt and ground wires would be the larger 12 gauge.
Hardwire harness # 319-S7-08 uses 10 gauge for the ground and auxiliary power, 12-gauge for brakes and 14-volt circuits for the other 4 functions. But the difference between 10 and 12 gauge wire for this application is not going to be a problem so I would stick with the custom harness # C56070. view full answer...
